I was walking through Hamburg today and saw this California Highway Patrol car and it brought back memories of home. Walking further I happened upon the US Embassy, and in front of it was a memorial for a dead soldier, and then sadness.

Yesterday I thought I was back in Patagonia because of the cold wind and rain. I didn’t expect Hamburg to be so cold in summer, but I am beginning to realize that I should always be prepared for anything. I found this little octopus on the beach and I had to save him. 2010 was a magical year. It was the year that I finished my masters program, quit work, packed all of my belongings into a single truck, and left the States to travel around the world. Prior to my departure in July I managed to get in some mountain biking, mountain climbing, rock climbing, hiking, and [...] Skully is a little butternut squash skull that my friend Blake and I spent two hours carving. We did a google search for “butternut squash” yesterday and the 7th image is of a butternut squash carved to look like a skull. In Argentina there are billions of butternut squashes and almost no typical Halloween pumpkins, [...] The only thing that we don’t have nearby is a good place to run. There are a few nice parks to the north, but they aren’t close. We ran to the park this morning but only had time for one lap around the park before we had to run back home. [...] I enjoyed a few days in New York before flying south. Met up with one of my old buddies and did some touristy stuff. My journey south will start at 2:00 am tomorrow morning and continue for 20 hours until I reach Argentina.
