On October 2nd Luke Mertens will present a photo exhibit and multimedia photo/video show with stories from his year of traveling around the world. Experience tango in Buenos Aires, backpacking through Patagonia, New Year’s Eve fireworks in Sydney, Buddhist temples in Cambodia and Thailand, Bastille Day in Paris, and many other awesome adventures in 13 [...] After a little over a year on the road I am home again. It feels great to be back but at the same time I feel a little bit like the guy at the end of Hurt Locker when he is in the supermarket with his girlfriend. It’s nice being home but it isn’t as [...] When I found out that St Jacobi has guided tours of the organ every Thursday I had to check it out. The tour that I participated in had a larger than usual turnout of around 20 to 30 people and it lasted a little over an hour. I loved the tour because our guide was [...] With the clouds, rain, and cold wind it may not seem like summer in Hamburg, but that doesn’t stop the annual “organ summer” concerts at St. Jacobi and St. Peter’s. I like organ and I used to play for my church when I was a kid, so I went to see Ernst-Ulrich von Kameke play [...] This year I have had pretty good luck being in the right place at the right time. The international tango competition in Buenos Aires, new years eve in Sydney, Songkran in Bangkok, and now La Fête Nationale (Bastille Day) in Paris. It’s amazing because I didn’t really plan any of these events specifically; they just [...] Travemünde sounds to me like Travel mundo, and that’s exactly what I have been doing in the last year! A few friends stopped by Hamburg and we went on a Hamburg harbor tour, visited the Hamburg flea and fish markets, and then took a train north east to Travemünde and the sea. Check out the [...] If you ever wondered what I am eating now that I am living in Germany, here is the answer: Croissant with white chocolate and hazelnut spread (from the Netherlands). And for the drink: hot white chocolate. Yum. Last weekend I visited Leeuwarden and Harlingen in the Netherlands. I love the little brick buildings with huge windows and the canals filled with boats. Check out the pictures… I was walking through Hamburg today and saw this California Highway Patrol car and it brought back memories of home. Walking further I happened upon the US Embassy, and in front of it was a memorial for a dead soldier, and then sadness. |
