Bastille Day in Paris

This year I have had pretty good luck being in the right place at the right time. The international tango competition in Buenos Aires, new years eve in Sydney, Songkran in Bangkok, and now La Fête Nationale (Bastille Day) in Paris. It’s amazing because I didn’t really plan any of these events specifically; they just happened to work out. Less then half an hour after we arrived in Paris we were watching the parade through the Arc de Triomphe de l’Étoile. What a welcome! After that we had a fallafel lunch and then walked to the Bastille to celebrate with a coffee and Macarons from Laduree. Next was a visit to Notre Dame before dinner in front of the Panthéon and the firework celebration at the Eiffel tower.

Day two was just as exciting with a closer look at the Arc de Triomphe without the parade crowds, a boat tour, tuk tuk ride, shopping mall excursion, and a climb up Montmartre, the highest point in Paris, to the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur. Day three started with a climb up the Eiffel Tower and then a visit to the Louvre. Although the sites were amazing, the highlight of the trip was our host and his friends and family. It was great to be with them and they made everything ten times more fun. Every night our feet and legs were exhausted from all the walking, but every morning we recuperated with a huge breakfast of cheese, baguettes, croissants, mille-feuilles, macarons, coffee, tea, and more. I have to say that my expectations for Paris were exceeded to the max because it was simply incredible. Thank you to our host and all our new Paris friends for making our visit unforgettable!
